Meet Zack Buchman, the visionary puppet designer whose passion for puppetry has transcended mere hobby, evolving into a lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence.

In his earliest memories, Zack Buchman has been enchanted by the world of puppets. Since he was a child, the allure of crafting characters from clay and string has held him in its thrall. He was entirely self-taught in this art form, initially, but over the years, he learned from a myriad of amazing individuals who crossed his path. Yet, amidst these influences, Zack adopted his own unique approach and stayed true to his distinctive style. He followed what can only be described as a feeling—an intuition that guided his hands and fueled his creativity. It’s a sensation that cannot be compartmentalized or neatly put in a box, but rather, it flows freely through his work, infusing each creation with a sense of magic and wonder.

At the heart of Zack’s creative process lies a collaborative spirit, where ideas bounce effortlessly among a trusted team of like-minded individuals at Furry Puppet Studio. Together, they breathe life into every project, infusing it with that elusive, magical factor that sets their work apart.

Their days are a whirlwind of activity, from crafting commercials to producing captivating videos, all while nurturing their own artistic endeavors. Yet, amidst the chaos, there is a method—a science—of managing the art. Prioritization becomes paramount, a delicate balance between completing one sculpture and embarking on the next, all while ensuring each piece receives the attention it deserves.

Zack’s routine is as meticulous as his craftsmanship. An early riser, he greets the day at 5:30 in the morning, embarking on walks to invigorate his mind and set the stage for a day of creativity and collaboration. Their long days often stretch into the evening, with the studio buzzing with activity until 5:30 PM, when the final strings are tied, and the last strokes of clay are molded.

But it’s not without its challenges. From capturing the likeness of subjects to navigating tight schedules and client demands, every project presents its own set of hurdles. Yet, Zack and his team approach each obstacle with determination and creativity, never losing sight of their vision.

Their endeavors in the realm of satire are equally noteworthy. With the Mexican satirical TV show, Zack and his team brought their expertise to the forefront, deftly caricaturing politicians while maintaining the whimsical charm of puppetry. It was a testament to their ability to navigate the complexities of political satire, capturing the essence of each subject as a custom puppet with precision and wit.

One notable project was the Pickers commercial, where a creative brief led to uncomfortable territory. Through skillful persuasion and innovative design, they transformed stereotypes into characters that resonated with authenticity and charm. It was a testament to their ability to navigate the delicate balance between artistry and client expectations.

And then there was the Casper commercial—a project that epitomized the thrill of creativity under pressure. Despite the tight schedule, Zack and his team rose to the occasion, delivering a whimsical and enchanting advertisement that captured the imagination of audiences far and wide. It was a testament to their ability to thrive in the face of adversity, turning constraints into opportunities for innovation.

And perhaps one of the most exhilarating collaborations came with Missy Elliot’s team, where creativity knew no bounds. Together, they embarked on a journey to bring the streets to life, marrying the artistry of puppetry with the rhythm of the urban landscape. This project also included the use of marionette puppets, which posed unique challenges due to their intricate mechanics and demanding control. Yet, Zack and his team rose to the occasion, showcasing their technical prowess and artistic vision in equal measure.
